Avon PDC has lightning touch when it comes to die casting expertise

Avon PDC is proud to announce their involvement in The Made in the Midlands campaign.  The Birmingham based manufacturer of zinc and aluminium die-castings are a prime example of a Midland’s based manufacturing company with an impressive skills base and repository of knowledge.  Originally formed in the 1920s, Avon PDC has acquired a commendable track record of providing customers with first class products, on time and with the dedicated application of all quality procedures to eliminate wastage and reduce costs.  A subsidiary of the Rical Group of companies, Avon PDC specializes in the manufacture of die-castings for sectors including automotive, medical, building and construction as well as point of sales equipment.

Avon PDC began business as Lightning Fasteners, producing zips fasteners, from raw zinc to completed zip including puller and textile surround, ready for use in a number of applications.  In 1982 Lightning Fasteners closed and left behind only the casting shop and tool room.  By 1985 the company moved to its current location on the Holford Estate.  Avon PDC then grew out of the amalgamation of IMI Precision Die Castings and Avon Die Castings, when IMI PDC was acquired from IMI Components in February 1998.

Despite the turbulence of the economy in recent years, Avon’s expertise and commitment has enabled them to grow into one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of die cast components and the firm has shown no sign of stopping in its plans to expand.  During 2010 the Rical Group purchased, Rochdale-based, Kenwell Precision Die-Casting’s Limited.  The company’s production was then moved into Avon PDC’s modern Holford Drive Factory in Witton, Birmingham.  Furthermore, this marked a key acquisition by the Rical Group of companies, a group which has interests in metal pressings, wireforming, fine blanking along with fabrication and jewellery findings.  Andy Essom, Sales Manager for Multiforms, part of the Rical Group of companies said: “As an employer of approximately 300 people predominantly in the Midlands area, The Rical Group knows the value of the Midlands as a region within the UK economy that offers long term stability by way of its manufacturing strength.”

Avon PDC supplies parts to a variety of industries including the automotive, architectural hardware and electronic sectors, to both European and world markets.  They have invested in the best equipment to manufacture high quality zinc & aluminium die castings up to 3kgs and are able to make parts in a variety of decorative and functional finishes, from simple passivation to high quality mirror finish chrome.  With such a solid, Midland’s based history and a dedication to utilising and preserving the very best in Midlands manufacturing talent Avon PDC has an even brighter future ahead of it.
